Divorce Decree
Getting a divorce anywhere is a stressful and painful process but if you don’t live in your own country it is more difficult.
Divorce has only been legal here since 1981.
Prime Minister José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero changed these laws in 2005.
Now it is not necessary to be legally separated for a certain period of time to get a “divorcio express”.
International couples can get divorced in Sapin relatively quickly.
All divorces in Sapin take place at a Juzgado de Primera Instancia and you will need a lawyer to be in court for you.
You have to present your marriage certificate and you will need to supply details of information of your economic situation.
If you have lived in the UK for most of your married life but you are getting divorced in Spain, the judge can apply the divorce laws of the UK.
